Why Healthcare Needs AI and Creative Thinking

Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) has been in high demand over the past few years and in 2018, it seems to be the most prominent trend in the tech industry. Healthcare and A.I. have begun to form a solid relationship and there’s a lot of buzz about how A.I. will benefit healthcare.

According to Healthcare IT News, A.I. is already transforming healthcare by verifying insurance, using virtual assistants to help patients and clinicians, and improving clinical documentation—and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

When we hear the word “creativity” most of us think about art, acting, music, and crafts of that nature, but business and technology need creativity just as much to thrive in this innovation-driven world. To think of it from the opposite angle, some of us think of robots when we hear the term “Artificial Intelligence,” while others think about code. But how many of us think about creativity as a necessary part of A.I. innovation?

Like most people, when I think about healthcare the last thing I think of is creativity. My thoughts go straight to experience and practicing how to take care of people. But think about it: if healthcare didn’t have creativity, would we have treatments to diseases that were fatal a few decades ago? Instead of throwing away a moldy petri dish, Dr. Alexander Fleming chose instead to examine it, and this one small act of scientific curiosity and creativity led to the discovery of the life-saving antibiotic penicillin in 1928.

What society is finding is that the more we push A.I., the more people are inclined to be creative. Artificial Intelligence is all about solving problems and making our lives more convenient. This type of higher-level creative thinking is exactly what humans were made to do.

Solving problems breeds creativity.

In 2018, just as in 1928, healthcare needs creativity to thrive. This creativity comes in the form of cost reductions, accuracy, speed, and so much more. A.I. frees up healthcare professionals to be more human and creative in their day-to-day actions.

Specifically within Digitize.AI, creativity means providing quality and efficient service to healthcare providers as well as patients.

Because of A.I., I see a promising future. We are the people who brainstorm ideas, engage, and communicate. We are born creative beings and it’s a fact that A.I. is nothing without humans. Let’s allow our imagination to lead the way.
